Movie production on Kjerringøy

Kjerringøy is known all around the world, for its movie productions. The first production came as early as in 1962, with the recording of Knut Hamsuns “Pan”. The movie was called “Kort er sommeren”.

In 1973-74 the novels “Benoni” and “Rosa” was produced as a TV-series by NRK, the TV-theatre.
In 1992, the Hamsun novel “Svermere”, was produced with the title “Telegrafisten”, followed by a new production of “Pan” in 1994-95. The very same year, NRK was shooting a film version of the life of Hamsun. In 2001, the production of a new film started. This time none of Hamsuns books were involved, but Herbjørg Wassmo`s novel “I am Dina”.

A film exhibition – Hamsun and the film

All movie productions on Kjerringøy has inspired to a film exhibition in Zahlfjøsen opened in 2000. The exhibition has got photos and clips from many Hamsun productions from 1920 and to the present day. The exhibition is called “Hamsun and the film”.
